While over at Mediatakeout, I saw this pic and the sight of it left me wondering.  With all of the excessive spending and bailouts that’s occurred over the last few months, you would think  pics like this would be a thing of the past for some. Not only do you not want to get a ticket while being a Good Samaritan, you also don’t want to think of someone stealing from you while you are in the process of helping someone else out……….

While I was browsing through  various other articles related to Good Samaritan stories, I ran across this:

“A good Samaritan who stopped to help an elderly couple who crashed their car yesterday afternoon didn’t get the Karma returned.

The 20-year-old woman from Stafford pulled over on Interstate 95 near milemarker 114 in Caroline County to assist the couple, whose car had rolled several times, said Sgt. Tom Cunningham of the Virginia State Police.

But when the woman returned to her car some time later, she found her purse overturned and her wallet and laptop missing.

“It’s particularly disturbing because she stopped to help and she turned out a victim,” Cunningham said.

He said the woman’s debit card was used at the Exxon Mobil in Ruther Glen and then later at another Caroline County business, and police were able to obtain surveillance photos from the Exxon.

Cunningham said the suspect likely left the scene and immediately purchased items with the woman’s debit card at the gas station.

No one saw the suspect near the woman’s car during the incident, Cunningham said, and the only physical description comes from his portrayal in the surveillance photos.

He is described as a white male with medium build, short hair and a goatee. His height and age are unknown.

Cunningham said the couple involved in the crash were from Rhode Island. Both were injured and taken to VCU Medical Center, but their injuries were non life-threatening.

When you see anyone in need of help, your first instinct should be to help them if you can. Most instances we will think before we react ( lending money, loaning a car, allowing someone to move in temporarily, i.e.). We will not just give immediate responses to these types of issues. However, it appears that it is the less serious issues that we should concern ourselves with, such as being a good Samaritan and helping the Elderly cross the road……….

“A good Samaritan who helped push three people out of the path of a pickup truck before being struck and injured has gotten a strange reward for his good deed: A jaywalking ticket. Family members said 58-year-old bus driver Jim Moffett and another man were helping two elderly women cross a busy Denver street in a snowstorm when he was hit Friday night.

Moffett suffered bleeding in the brain, broken bones, a dislocated shoulder and a possible ruptured spleen. He was in serious but stable condition Wednesday.

The Colorado State Patrol issued the citation. Trooper Ryan Sullivan said that despite Moffett’s intentions, jaywalking contributed to the accident.

Moffett had been driving his bus when the two women got off. In the interest of safety, he got out and, together with another passenger, helped the ladies cross.

Moffett’s stepson, Ken McDonald, said the driver of the pickup plowed into his stepfather, but not before Moffett pushed the two women out of the way.

When he awoke in intensive care, he learned of the ticket. “His reaction was dazed and confused. I was a little angry,” said McDonald.

The other man also was cited for jaywalking, while the pickup driver was cited with careless driving that led to injury. Sullivan said the two elderly women haven’t been cited but the investigation is ongoing.” Associated Press

This photo is one of several of the electronic road signs that were hacked in a variety of places.  This Electronic road sign was hacked near the intersection of Lamar and Martin Luther King Boulevards in Austin, Texas on January 26th, 2009.  It read, “CAUTION! ZOMBIES!! AHEAD!!!” !

Now, if only there was some video footage in the area to show the reactions of the Commuters that day!  I can’t say that the reactions would not be priceless!!

FYI:  These types of pranks can endanger road crews, distract drivers, could cause the drivers to cause serious injuries to themselves and others, and are punishable misdemeanor crimes.
